Cinematographer. photographer. creative direction
Nathan Tung is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer, filmmaker, and photographer with a strong visual style and a passion for diverse storytelling. Originally from Mountain View, California, he moved to Shanghai at age seven, where his interest in photography first began. That early curiosity eventually grew into a lifelong creative pursuit.
From 2019 to 2021, Nathan focused on nature photography, traveling throughout the West Coast to capture powerful landscapes that highlight the beauty and detail of the natural world. His eye for composition and light naturally evolved into a love for motion and narrative.
His filmmaking journey started in high school, shooting short videos with his younger brother and friends—editing iPad footage in iMovie and drawing inspiration from early YouTube creators. He went on to study Television Production at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he began exploring more cinematic storytelling, pushing beyond traditional broadcast formats. His time working in sports broadcasting also helped sharpen his instincts behind the camera.
Nathan later earned his MFA in Cinematography at Chapman University’s Dodge College, where he studied under industry veterans like Johnny Jensen, ASC. There, he collaborated with filmmakers from all backgrounds and developed a deeper understanding of visual storytelling and lighting design.
Since then, Nathan has taken on a wide range of roles on set—including DP, Gaffer, Key Grip, and AC—on everything from feature films and music videos to commercials and short-form content. His recent work as a cinematographer spans vertical-format features, narrative shorts, and music videos.
Nathan is always looking to elevate his craft and collaborate with passionate, like-minded creatives. Through both motion and still photography, he aims to tell honest stories and bring meaningful visuals to life.
